I purchased this Linksys cable modem as one of Amazon's amazing deals of the day and I'm extremely pleased with it. No set-up issues found here.very easy to integrate into your computer system. I'm not a tech expert in this area, but I know the Linksys name is gernerally regarded as dependable and so far this cable modem hasn't let me down. I've been using it for about six months now and not a single problem. The only thing it can't do is call the cable company for you.you still need do notify them of your MAC address. If you're currently renting a modem from your cable company, then look around for one that is on sale and drop the monthly fee; though small, it adds up. This Linksys modem is a good place to start.
I can't say anything else. Clearwire was too slow, so I opted to switch to Comcast, which was reputed to be the fastest service in Seattle. As I read in other reviews, and checking with the Comcast website, this modem works well with Comcast cable internet. Has not given me any problems since. My home wireless network is powered by Netgear WGR614 Wireless-G Router, and the two products appear to work seamlessly.
product was well maintained and in great condition i just wish i had know it didnt come with any of the essential wires
The only way to use this modem is to plug it in and hope that everything works by default. Also, there is NO WAY TO CONFIGURE THIS MODEM.
It came with a CD of drivers for the USB connection to a computer (from 2004), a printed setup manual, and the hardware with cables. I bought this new for a Comcast Cable Internet connection.
Therefore, I cannot install the new drivers. I registered online and found new drivers (from 2007) so I downloaded them.
However, I have not been able to uninstall the previous drivers, even after taking advanced steps to delete the keys from the registry that linksys failed to remove after uninstalling. It does not have a web interface or any software that allows you to configure anything.
You can do a hard reset by holding the power button for a long time, but you will never be able to change any of the settings.I think un-configurable hardware is a waste of money.
I installed only a router behindit, and did not need the installation disk, not using the USB 2.0 port.See my review for TRENDnet TW100-BRF114 firewall router for more info.I will install a LAN VoIP gateway to add Optimum Voice service, likelyusing a TRENDnet or HP multiport managed switch to maximize traffic flowand not tank my connection with the VoIP hogging the bandwidth.I can depower my router, and reboot it, without having to reboot modem,a very nice 'hot swap' kind of PnP. It was installed to Optimum Online from Cablevision on 05/13/09.Runs very cool, boots in about a minute. I purchased this cable modem Christmas Eve from Walmart at a very goodprice. Buy this modem and get better VoIPusing a gateway on your network, instead of a modem with VoIP built-in.Then you're not dependent on a single unit for total service should onego down, you still have the other services available. Like it says in the documenta-tion, call your ISP and give them the MAC address to 'provision' modemon their server to connect service, unless you need physical install ofcoaxial RG6U cable by the cable company. Then they'll do it all.Connection speed is excellent, uptime 100% in the limited time of use.I recommend using this modem with a router, and it has a USB 2.0 portfor other devices including computers. Many VoIP gatewayscan connect directly to this cable modem if your router goes down. If aVoIP gateway goes down, you still have your broadband ISP connection.
